We put New Mexico’s students at the center.

We are a student-centered accountability organization. We expose how adult institutional interests — union contracts, political horse-trading, agency inertia, board politics — block student outcomes in this state, and we build the public and political pressure to change that.

We are progressive. We are unapologetic. We are rooted in New Mexico. We are comfortable naming names. We are pro-teacher. We are anti-contract-that-treats-students-as-an-afterthought.

Why we exist

New Mexico has ranked at or near the bottom of the country in student outcomes for a generation — not because our kids can’t learn, and not because our teachers aren’t trying. It’s because the adults who run the system have, decision after decision, put something else first.

Someone has to read the 125-page contracts. Someone has to sit through the 4-hour board meetings. Someone has to say, in plain language, who voted for what and why it matters for a fourth grader in Gallup or a high schooler in the South Valley.

That someone is us.

What we do

Accountability journalism. We cover school board meetings, union political spending, contract language, and governance failures — and we tell you, in plain language, who decided what and who benefited.

Data you can use. NAEP scores, proficiency gaps, per-pupil spending, board voting records. We translate the numbers into the story they actually tell, and we show our work.

The Roadrunner. Our weekly hope column — the schools, leaders, and students showing real signs of progress. Roadrunners are a good omen. We pass those omens along.

Querencia & Consequences. We call out the adults who’ve forgotten whose future they’re responsible for — with dates, with documents, with names.
